Stand, O Belisarius, greatest of men,
Sharp with the spear, like Achilles you appear.
Crossing the Illyrian paths, hero,
Like an Athenian brave and great leader.
Conquering lands and Persian masses,
In honor of the City, in battle’s chase.
The prize comes to the land, and war is deserted,
Power chooses you, O excellent warrior.
A heroic contest consumes one's nobility,
In victorious rivers, and land graced by fortune.
You, rising with names in the contest,
As a riddle of victory, we praise Belisarius.
Conquering lands and Persian masses,
In honor of the City, in battle’s chase.
The prize comes to the land, and war is deserted,
Power chooses you, O excellent warrior.
The end comes to the contest, and imperishable is that,
By divine name, among those beneath.
For you are ever the pinnacle of Italy,
Olympic victor or warrior of valor.
See, the whole earth in sacred memory,
Immortal rebirth of virtue will be granted.
For you, Belisarius, both courtier and general,
Will have eternal presence in immortal records.
